How can you provide care when you are simultaneously having to fight for your own means of doing so?
Juliette, Jérôme, Anne-Hélène and Christophe are doctors and heads of departments or teams at the Gérard Marchant public psychiatric hospital in Toulouse. They are at the beginning, middle or end of their careers, and are on the front line of the crisis facing public psychiatric care. Working alongside them, we’ll gain an insider’s view of decision-making processes at the highest levels, as well as their relationships with patients and the complex day-to-day management of a hospital.
La tête contre les murs* will thus explore the challenges of caring for mental illness, often referred to by healthcare workers as the ‘disease of connection’. This fragile bond, which breaks and is sometimes strengthened, will be the beating heart of the film. For it is this bond that is undermined by a lack of resources, and which must be preserved at all costs.
