Throughout the southern part of the Lille metropolitan area, right in the heart of the cities, beneath our feet, lie unexpected places where the present and the past coexist. An underground world that is home to paths, lakes, art, labyrinths, spectacular quarries, and still plenty of mystery. These places are known to the lucky few who frequent them as ‘Les Catiches’.
The characters in "Life beneath the city – the Catiches", spanning three different generations, are among them. They explore these unique places through an urban exploration (urbex) approach that borders on a sensory experience; these sites are not only landmarks of an underground culture and a precious heritage on the verge of disappearing, but also bear witness to the region’s industrial and social history.
