Aminata was born a woman, in a world where tradition demanded her genital mutilation. Now living in exile in France, she is thriving within her Guinean and Christian community in the suburbs of Lille, but feels disconnected from her body. Disappointed by the French healthcare professionals who stigmatised her mutilated genitals, Aminata walks through the doors of SAFE in Lille, one of the few centres in France dedicated to women who have undergone female genital mutilation.
There she meets Estelle, who became a gynaecologist at a time when the omnipotence of doctors was being called into question. Aware of the discriminatory biases within the medical profession, Estelle fought to create a place dedicated to women who have undergone female genital mutilation, such as Aminata. At the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Hospital in Lille, various forms of physical and psychological rehabilitation are offered.
Using a split-screen technique, the film follows Aminata on her journey towards recovery, alongside Estelle and others. Little by little, she begins to put her life back together.
